2015 – January 7 – Loretta Kelley provided us with a very informative morning music workshop on Røros pols. That afternoon a very useful and successful dance workshop on the Telespringar and Telegangar dance was given at the Unitarian Fellowship building.
In the evening we had one of the most amazing winter parties to date. It was extremely well attended, the potluck feast was spectacular and delicious. Byron started the evening in his Julebukk cow costume, talking about the history of the julebukk tradition. Loretta then played a few beautiful tunes on the Hardanger fiddle, telling stories and involving some of the young children in her last tune. The dance floor was packed that evening. Loretta joined Ingevald’s Spelmän that evening and also played her Hardanger fiddle for several Telegangar and Telespringar dances. Musicians included Byron, Theresa, Joni, Suzy, Randy, and Lauralyn. A few people were in costume and we will be challenging next year’s participants to come up with some creative costuming ideas.
2015 – January 6 – Loretta Kelley came to Lawrence for a weekend series of Scandinavian music and dance events. In the morning she gave a presentation at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School to two 6th grade orchestra classes on the Hardanger fiddle. The students loved the music, and asked some very good questions. In the afternoon she was interview on KPR. That evening Loretta gave us an amazing concert at the Union Pacific Depot in North Lawrence. The music was hypnotic and the stories were very interesting. A nice party was hosted at Theresa’s house afterwards.
2014 – December 12 – Ingevalds Spelmän played for the IKEA Christmas smorgasbord event. We had a full contingent of musicians for the event – Byron, Theresa, Carolyn, Suzy, Helen, Lauralyn, and Joni! It was a fun and very satisfying event.

2014, February 8 – We had our 7th annual Julebukk party, aka Scandinavian Winter Party. Attendance was very good. The potluck dinner was outstanding. Before the dance started, Byron read a story about the history of the Julebukk celebration in Norway, Theresa read a captivating folktale and the musicians played a short concert. Tom Jongling did a great job of leading the evening mixer dancers. There were also a nice array of costumes to add to the festive event. Musicians this evening included: Byron, Theresa, Carolyn, Suzy, Randy, and Lauralyn. (The video below shows one of the concert tunes and a mixer dance – video clip taken by Gary Bennett.
