2011 – June 26 – July 3 – Nordic Fiddles and Feet Scandinavian music and dance camp in northern New Hampshire.     Byron, Theresa and Ruth attended this year’s fine event!     Our Swedish fiddle instructors – Thomas and Marit Westling and Torbjörn Näsbom (Nyckelharpa) were fabulous.    The evening dance parties were amazing events with a very good variety of dances and music.    In addition to the fine music instruction,  all of the concerts, superb food and people made this a top notch event.

Be sure and click on the pictures below to see a larger version.    The camp – activities and the surrounding nature were rich with photographic opportunities.     A few notes – The first photo below “Celestial Waters” was taken from the boathouse in the evening light.   None of my photos have been manipulated in any way except that this one was flipped upside down.   It looks like a block print and is magical.

Other exceptional photos are ones taken at the waterfall area (old mill dam) in Bradford, Vermont.  That was quite a beautiful place on the way up to camp.

2011, February 7 – An article was published in the Lawrence Journal World about my (Byron’s) musical journey, my discovery of Scandinavian music and the formation of Ingevalds Spelmän.   It is in the Slice of Life column titled “Heritage Points Musician to Passion For Fiddling” by Eileen Roddy.     http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2011/feb/07/slice-life-heritage-points-musician-passion-fiddli/ and a link to the photo can be found here http://www2.ljworld.com/photos/2011/feb/07/207321/

2010, December 3rd – Ingevalds Spelmän performed on stage at the Lawrence Arts Center along with other musicians to raise money for The Americana Music Academy.   Our 10 minute presentation was well received by the packed house.   Musicians included Byron, Theresa, Suzy Bennett, Carolyn Young, Ella Gore, Helen Martin (on bass) and Lauralyn Bodle.

2010, October 29 – Byron and Theresa attended and played at the Folklore Village Swedish music and dance weekend.  It was a fun event!

On the way home we were listening to CDs that Theresa purchased.    As I was reading through the liner notes on Leif Alpsjö’s  fine album “Tidlöst,” I discovered that one of the photos included me and participants at at the Folklore Village Swedish music and dance weekend in 1997.   What a delightful surprise!     I have received permission from Leif to publish the photo here.   Leif holds the copyright to this photo.  It is a scan from the album since locating the original would be difficult.  I am standing in the light from the window in the upper center.

2010, October 8 –  Byron gave a presentation of photographs and report on his trip to Sweden this past summer to the Facklan Lodge (Vasa) in Kansas City Ingevalds Spelmän.   Facklan had generously provided some funds to support the trip for Byron, Ruth and Rosemary.     Ingevald members Suzy Bennett, Theresa Martin, Emma Machell provided some live music to finish off the evening.

2010, October 2 – Ingevalds Spelmän played at the annual Nordic Heritage Festival here in Lawrence.   Byron set up his usual educational display featuring Scandinavian musical instrument, art, folklore and textiles.  Matt Kirby did a fine job of dressing up as Näcken, looking like the mythical creature straight from the swamp.    Andrea Repinsky dressed up as one of the finest looking huldre that I have seen, complete with a tail.    Members of the group providing music for the event included Byron, Theresa, Carolyn Young, and Suzy Bennett.

2010, Sept 18 – Byron, Theresa and Rosemary played with the Chicago Spelmanslag at their 20th anniversary party at the Swedish American Museum in Chicago.      It was a fine evening that started with a fabulous meal, very good music and dancing.
